As each trend advances on its own, the technical hurdles between now and a genuinely seamless system keep shrinking.

Don’t expect this in a starter smart home kit anytime soon. But biometric sleep tracking moved from a niche gadget to a standard feature in well under a decade. The underlying premise here — a house responding to your nervous system instead of your voice — isn’t that much of a stretch as a next step. Whether it eventually shows up wrapped in $5,000-an-ounce Oud or a much cheaper synthetic substitute depends on how fast this moves from ultra-luxury showcase piece to something a real consumer market wants.

For now, AI scent-scaping remains one of the stranger, more evocative ideas in the smart home world: a house that can, quite literally, smell that something’s wrong — and try to help before you’ve said a word.
